  32. Egyptian Universities Network (EUN) is the pioneer in facilitating the communication between the Egyptian Universities and the scientific community and providing them with different resources of information. It has been established in 1987, and its head quarter is located at Supreme Council of Universities - Cairo University Campus.
In 1989 EUN connected the Egyptian academic community to the international community through the European Academic and Research Network (EARN).
In October 1993 EUN was connected to the Internet through Montpellier – France with bandwidth 9.6 Kbps, then the bandwidth increased to 64 Kbps through Paris, so EUN become the main gateway to the Internet in Egypt.
Due to the rapid increase in the usage of the Internet, the bandwidth has been increased to become now 15 STM1 (2325Mbps). This in addition to the connection to other international networks such as Gloriad.

    EUN Services:

1-Providing high quality networking with high speeds connecting all the universities and scientific community with each other with speed starting from 34 Mbps to 1Gbps.
2-Connecting the Egyptian academic community with the international networks:
    -Internet through 15 STM1 (2325 Mbps) link.
    -Gloriad with 1 STM1 (155 Mbps).
3-Providing value added services by contributing in some European projects such as EUMEDGRID-Support project which provides a grid computing infrastructure.
4-Managing and operating the .eg Top Level Domain infrastructure and services. This in addition to enhance and maintain effective communication with national and international concerned bodies.
5-Hosting and managing the equipment of the higher education development projects (e-learning, Training, Digital Library and Management information system for the supreme council of universities).
6-Operating Video Conferencing system to facilitate communication between all the Egyptian Universities, EUN HQ and international sites through centralized system located at EUN LAN with remote systems distributed at universities premises with capabilities of streaming and recording.
7-Providing electronic mail services for all the Egyptian universities staff.
8-Supporting the enhancement and development of the internal network of the universities by providing technical consultation in the field of networks and computers and organizing regular field visits.
