EENet is a structural unit of the Information Technology Foundation for Education (HITSA) which is a joint foundation formed after consolidation of Estonian Information Technology Foundation, EENet and Tiger Leap Foundation. HITSA is a non-profit organisation founded by the Estonian Republic, Tartu University, Tallinn Technical University, Eesti Telekom and the Association of Estonian Information Technology and Telecommunications Companies.

  33. On April 12, 2013 EENet was transferred to the Information Technology Foundation for Education (former Estonian Information Technology Foundation) with all current rights of representation in international organisations. After consolidation of Estonian Information Technology Foundation, EENet and Tiger Leap Foundation on 1st May 2013 a new joint foundation was formed - the Information Technology Foundation for Education.

    About 2012:
    - EENet and Televõrk Ltd. signed a 10 year contract on indefeasible use of rights of dark fibre in March.
    - The backup connection between EENet and GÉANT was upgraded from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps in July.
    - EENet's first identity federation TAAT (Estonian Academic Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure) was launched in the beginning of 2012. In October, 2012 EENet joined TERENA Certificate Service and started to issue certificates for its customers free of charge.
    - In December EENet's web became mobile friendly.
