  21. FCCN has a long relation with the NREN networks and communities of Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and Principe and East Timor. This cooperation is always evolving and covers a wide scope of subjects, namely DSN services, digital libraries, connectivity and security. FCCN was or is partner of the following EU projects that involved NRENs outside of the GÉANT area: 6NET, 6DISS, 6DEPLOY, CAESAR, ALICE, ALICE2, AfricaConnect and ELLA.

  34. The most important change in the past year was funding. The economic situation of Portugal is a big challenge for any institution that relies on public funding. To get our operations as efficient as possible was or main objective last year. This will be a major concern in the current and future years.
  35. We think that the compendium is geting better each year. But it would be usefull to have more help text explaining rigorously what is intended with each technical question.
We had some dificulties with the following questions:
B4. What percentage of the total kilometric length of the network does this (installed dark fiber) represent?
Is this supposed to compare kilometric length of dark fiber with kilometric length of leased circuits? How do we know the length of leased circuits, provided by telcos? Should we use strait lines on the map? If yes, should we also use strait lines on the map for the dark fiber, or linear distances?
B.14 Operational external IP connections at the end of January 2012 (usable links excluding backup links):
There should be a way to state when multiple peering share the same physical link (10G port).
B27. What percentage of your IPv6 address allocation did you assign to your client institutions so far?
This question puzzled us, because we reached the number of 0.119% as the percentage of our IPv6 address space allocated to our client institutions. Is this result OK?
