  20. - Since April 2.008, the Ministry for Science and Innovation is in charge of funding RedIRIS and setting its basic strategy, but its operational and technical management has been entrusted to RED.ES until at least 2.011.

    - RED.ES is a state-owned entity, with its own legal personality, but it belongs to the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Trade, through its State Department for Telecommunications and Information Society.

    - The President of RED.ES is the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society.

    - RED.ES has a Board of Directors, formed by several high representatives from different Ministries. The BoD meets at least once a month.

    - The day-to-day activity of RED.ES is in the hands of its Director General.

    - RedIRIS is one of the Departments of RED.ES, and it is managed by the Director of RedIRIS.

    - RedIRIS is mainly funded by the Ministry for Science and Innovation, which also sets its main priorities.

    To ensure proper coordination between RED.ES (as the entity managing RedIRIS) and the Ministry for Science and Innovation (as the entity which pays for most of its activity and which provides the main guidelines), the latter is represented at the Board of Directors of RED.ES .

  34. In October 2011, the contract of the current leased-capacity backbone (RedIRIS-10) will come to an end. It will be replaced by RedIRIS-NOVA, a dark-fibre backbone which has been contracted for the next 20 years. However, it should be noted that the dark fiber for the Canary islands and Extremadura will not be deployed until 2012, and that so far it seems there will be no dark fibre, even in 2012, for the Baleares islands.
