  35. KENET is in the process of upgrading the network infrastructure to meet the increased demand for connectivity by member institutions. The envisaged network will have clear functionalities to include: a high speed core transmission backbone incoporating a robust gateway (outsourced and preferrably based on a partnership for its development and operation), a local loop segment (mixed ownership with KENET owning some links and leasing from operators), a Network Operation Center incorporating a Network Information center. These upgrades are made possible by several infrastructure projects being undertaken by the government to improve ICTs services delivery.
