    CSC is a not-for-profit company owned 100% and governed by the Ministry of Education in Finland.
    As a limited company, CSC has a Board of Directors (appointed by the shareholders, that is Ministry of Education) and a Managing Director.

  37. The Finnish university system is currently undergoing a largest restructuring process in decades merging several universities to create larger and more diverse institutions. The change has already increased a demand for fixed DWDM lightpaths between the new geographically separated university sites.

    Funet started an IRU dark fiber based DWDM network upgrade in 2008 which currently covers over 50% of the network and will replace almost all remaining leased circuits by 2010. The DWDM network will make possible connections up to 40 Gbps.

    The ongoing router upgrade will increase the IP network backbone bandwidth to 10 Gbps and provide better availability of faster customer connections (up to 10 Gbps) by 2010.
