    5. Since 1 January 2000, BELNET has been organized in the form of a public service with independent management that comes under the Federal Science Policy Office. This specific structure gives BELNET more autonomy to respond quickly to continuous developments in the world of telecommunications and the Internet.

      The organic rules on the financial and material management of BELNET are given in the Royal Decree of 1 February 2000.

      BELNET is managed by its director and the management committee.

    13. 2007: new backbone network was developed implemented and BELNET acquired ( via IRU's) and manage it's
      Q1 2008: new backbone network operational, Servicedesk & NOC outsourced & operational
      2006-2007-2008 : a fiber connection for all Belgian Schools of higher Education (ISCED Level 5 & 6 - # ca. 50 institutions) to NREN backbone has been realized.
