High Energy physics GARR contributed to the design and implementation of LHC Optical Network providing dedicated tier0-tier1 10Gbps ligthpath.
A dedicated 10Gbps ligthpath connects the italian tier1 in Bologna by INFN-CNAF to the tier0 at CERN. Also, backup tier1-teir1 10Gbps ligthpaths are going to be provided through an IT-CH-DE CBF from CNAF in Bologna to the german Tier1 in Karlsruhe (FZK)
GARR is planning a TIER1-TIER2 connectivity model using MPLS e2e dedicated paths among them also considering VPNl2 or VPLS architecture
Chemistry
Biomedical
Astroscience EVLBI project involves three Italian sites located in S. Basilio (CA), Noto (SR), Medicina (BO).
For all of them GARR should provide 1Gbps connectivity to GARR PoPs.
The GE link for Medicina (Bologna) is already up and running.
GARR is working to find a setup based on dark fiber to provide the 1Gbps connectivity to the Noto and S. Basilio sites before end 2007.
Arts Music MasterClasses events took place many times between GARR and US sites. GARR provided a 1Gbps link to the closer GARR PoP (Rome)
and the traffic transit to the international destinations.
GARR provides the connection to the sites hosting specific events on a temporary basis (workshop, conferences, meeting ecc)
with different bandwidhts (2Mbps up to 1Gbps).
Humanities GARR provide connectivity to several very important museums in Italy
Others: GARR is providing CINECA,the italian site involved in the DEISA project, with a dedicated dark fiber link equipped with a 1Gbps Ethernet access and connectivity to GEANT2 backbone.
MUPBED project:
GARR is providing 1 GE connectivity to TILab the italian testbed laboratory of the MUPBED project and provides
also 4 layer2 e2e MPLS paths to the other european involved sites.
The CINECA connection to DEISA project should increase to 10Gbps at the end of 2006.
GARR is going to provide TILab, the italian testbed of the MUPBED project, with a STM-16 SDH connection going to the GEANT2 SDH backbone.
