6.21 Brief description of the governing structure:
- RedIRIS is a Department of RED.ES

- RED.ES is a state-owned entity. It is a legal entity of its own, but it belongs to the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Trade, through its State Department for Telecommunications and Information Society.

- The President of RED.ES is the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society.

- RED.ES has a Board of Directors, formed by several high representatives from different Ministries. The BoD meets at least once a month.

- The day-to-day activity of RED.ES is in the hands of its Director General.

- RedIRIS is one of the Departments of RED.ES, and it is managed by the Director of RedIRIS.

- RedIRIS is mainly funded by the Ministry for Education and Science, which also sets its main priorities.

To ensure proper coordination between RED.ES (as the entity managing RedIRIS) and the Ministry for Education and Science (as the entity which pays for most of its activity and which provides the main guidelines), the latter is represented in the Board of Directors of RED.ES by means of its Secretary General for Scientific and Technological Policy.

6.26 Short description of major changes that occurred in the network during the past year or that are foreseen for the coming year:
In the next weeks, a tender for the provision of the NREN backbone will be launched, as the existing backbone contract is bound to expire before the end of the year.

RedIRIS is currently participating in the following EU-Funded Projects: GN2, ALICE, EUMEDCONNECT, EGEE-II, EELA, EUMEDCONNECT and MUPBED
