A fiber pair has just been leased to connect two universities outside the Reykjavik area (about 40 and 100 km away). One of those universities is currently connected by a 30Mb/s wireless link. They will both get gigabit connectivity to start with.
Extra fiber has also been leased in the Akureyri area to facilitate the establishment of a fiber ring between the connection points there.
It is estimated that both of these projects will be finished before the end of May 2006.
