Derived from the expression Morocco Wide Area Network, MARWAN is a national information network dedicated to education, training and research.

Its organisation was decided by the Prime Minister in 1998 and carried out/completed in 2000 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry in Charge of Vocational Training, in collaboration with Maroc Telecom (IAM), which is the operator in charge of the realisation of the telecommunication network management. The convention of partnership signed between the three Ministries cited above and the Maroc Telecom puts the conditions of this partnership.
