Remarks regarding this section The mission of CERIST is to develop the R&D activities related with technologies of Information for the benefit of all the scientific institutions and to provide services to all the scientific communities. Since 1986 the CERIST has promoted the use of access to all the bibliographic dada bases in different fields and created in different universities a point of presence to facilitate the use of these services to the researchers, teachers and students. In 1994, just after CERIST was connected to the Internet, the universities have started to use Internet services with dialup connection provided by CERIST in Algiers first and gradually in most of the Algerian cities where there is a university.
The research network project has started in 1996 with the connection of most of the important universities and gradually each university has joined the network.
CERIST has defined a backbone-IP at national level to organize the architecture of the Research Network and has promoted the use of all Internet services (dns, mail, web, remote access, ...) in each institution.
