Brief description of the governing structure: The NREN is a non profit public organization established and registered as a legal person according to Slovak law by a few persons representing Slovak universities and the Slovak academy of science.
All institutions that are connected to SANET and make use of the network services must be a member of the SANET association.

General assembly (all members of SANET Association) elect the Board of SANET which has 11 members, from board members is elected a SANET President.

SANET has technical subcommittees, mainly the members responsible for running SANET nodes at the Universities.

SANET has no staff of its own, all personnel which are working in the network nodes (26 nodes) and also all Board members are joined to some academic institutions ( universities and institutes Slovak academy of science).

Technology used for the core network: Migration to switched gigabit ethernet in progress, 6 POPs already connected, others planned before end 2002.
Planned technical changes: Planned changes - implement upgrades to N x 1 Gbps or to 10 Gbps according to requirements, migrate the whole network to switched Ethernet technology end-to-end.
Expected core capacity in two years: N x 1Gbps or N x 10Gbps.
Involvement in Internet Exchange Point: The Slovak University of Technology is running the SIX. The Slovak University of Technology is a member of SANET Association, provides the main node in SANET network and network management of international connection.
