Technology used for the core network: ATM
Planned technical changes: A programme called "PIONIER: Polish Optical Internet - Advanced Applications, Services and Technologies for the Information Society" will be developed for the Polish scientific-academic community between the years 2001-2005.
The programme conception assumes the realisation of three essential targets:
1. Developing the information infrastructure for the scientific community in Poland up to a high enough level which will allow research concerning the challenges of modern science, technology, services and applications.
2. Developing and testing pilot services and applications for the information society, which will be the framework for deployment in such domains as science, education, governmental and local administration, industry and service oriented business.
3. To join in the competition for software development towards new applications in the information society.
