IP address and domain name of CNRS were assigned in 1996, and a connection via a leased line was set up. Within its mandate to support research in Lebanon and to foster relations and services among universities and research institutions, CNRS offered through a private local Internet provider and over telephones lines email services free of charge to all research institutions.
