Short description of the history of the NREN:
|
The missions of the CERIST is to develop the R&D activities related with technolgies of Information for the benefit of all the scientific institutions and to provide services to all the scientific communities. Since 1986 the CERIST has promote the use of access to all the bibliographic dada bases in differents fields and create in differents universities a point of presence to facilitate the use of these services to the researchers, teachers and students. In 1994, just after the CERIST was connected to Internet, the universities fas started to use Internet services with dialup connection provided by CERIST in Algiers first and gradually in most of the Algerian cities where university is.
The reseach network project has started in 1996 with the connection of most of the important universities and gradually each university has joined the network.
The CERIST has defined a backbone-IP at national level to organize the architecture of the Research Network and has promote the use of all Internet services (dns, mail, web, remote access, ...) in each institution.
