Registration open for 2015 Network Performing Arts Production workshop

Registration is open for the eighth Network Performing Arts Production (NPAP) workshop, which will be held on 4-6 May 2015 in London, UK. The workshop's programme is more advanced than previous events in the series and will build on the basic knowledge and skills acquired there or by using the learning materials. The NPAP workshops facilitate outreach to new user communities in the arts and humanities areas, particularly by demonstrating the use of research networks in supporting real-time musical, dance and other artistic performances. Participants learn about and use cutting-edge distance-education technology and explore new ways of incorporating audio and visual technology in performances.

Submit proposals for TNC15 - deadline approaching!

After opening the TNC15 call for proposals on 6 October, the Programme Committee has received a good number of responses, but more proposals are welcome. This year, you can contribute more ideas than ever before to help shape the conference. In addition to the usual opportunity to submit presentation abstracts, you can now also propose entire sessions. And rather than waiting until next year to submit ideas for lightning talks and posters, you can also do this immediately. The online submissions tool has been improved to provide one unified system to support all these changes.

The deadline for submitting presentation abstracts and session proposals is 28 November 2014. The deadline for proposals for posters and lightning talks is 15 April 2015.

TCS certificate service responds to SHA security update

The Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) plays an important role in signing digital certificates used to support secure websites. The majority of certificates in place at the moment rely on SHA-1, despite the fact that cryptographic weaknesses had been identified. In recent months, Google and Microsoft have both announced plans to deprecate SHA-1 in favour of SHA-2, which provides a stronger hash function. In order to support community migration to SHA-2, the GÉANT Association's Amsterdam office (formerly TERENA) and Comodo have made it possible to order SHA-2 via the current TCS certificate service. SHA-2 orders can now be placed for server, code-signing and personal certificates.

The membership of TERENA and the shareholders of DANTE voted to proceed during meetings held in Berlin on 7 October. This restructuring marks a new phase in almost thirty years of collaborative research and education networking in Europe.

And rather than waiting until next year to submit ideas for lightning talks and posters, that can also be done immediately. The online submissions tool has been improved to provide one unified system to support all these changes.

28 November 2014 is the deadline for submitting presentation abstracts and session proposals. The deadline for submitting proposals for posters and lightning talks is 15 April 2015.
