TERENA has a vacancy for a Project Development Officer

The TERENA technical group consists of Project Development Officers (PDOs) as well as IT support staff. It is headed by a Chief Technical Officer. Technical staff work closely with the administrative group making up a small international team in the TERENA secretariat office in the centre of Amsterdam. TERENA Secretariat Switches to VoIP

The TERENA Secretariat recently migrated its phone system to an open-source-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution. VoIP is a technology for transmitting ordinary telephone calls over the Internet very cheaply or for free. TERENA had planned to replace the Secretariat phone system this year and wanted a system that is more reliable than the traditional systems and provides a number of new features.

Registration for the third EuroCAMP (European Campus Architecture Middleware Planning) is now closed. The three-day workshop took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 3-5 April 2006.

Low-cost Server Certificates Available via TERENA

Universities and institutions in the research and education sector in eight European countries can obtain server certificates at very low cost through their National Research and Education Networking organisations (NRENs). This arrangement has been made possible through an agreement between TERENA and GlobalSign, a Cybertrust subsidiary.

SEEFIRE Workshop in Bucharest Raised Awareness about Benefits of Dark Fibre

The SEEFIRE (South-East Europe Fibre Infrastructure for Research and Education) project has held a policy workshop in Bucharest, Romania on Tuesday 17 January 2006. The workshop, the second in a series of SEEFIRE events, focused on the strategic and economic benefits of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) owning and operating their own dark-fibre networks in southeast Europe. The workshop brought together end-users, university directors, telecommunication operators as well as decision makers and political representatives.

Apply Now for Participation in the Next CSIRT Training Course, Vilnius 29-30 March 2006

TERENA and FIRST will jointly organise a TRANSITS training workshop for CSIRTs on 29-30 March 2006. The workshop is co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency. The venue will be the the Le Meridien Villon Resort and Convention Centre near Vilnius, Lithuania.

New TERENA Task Force on Lifecycle and Portfolio Management Established

On 17 December, the TERENA Executive Committee approved the creation of a new TERENA task force, TF-LCPM. The new task force will promote collaboration between national research and education networking organisations (NRENs) in Europe in the area of product and service management.

Feature: TERENA Workshop on Structural Funds

TERENA has held a meeting in Brussels on 8 and 9 December 2005 for managers and directors of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in the European Union to discuss and learn about the availability and usage of Structural Funds* from the European Union to develop their network infrastructures.
