IPv6 Trainers' Workshop

The 6DISS project (http://www.6diss.org/) will be holding an IPv6 training workshop on 17-19 October 2006 in Brussels, Belgium. This is aimed at individuals who are interested in organising and running IPv6 training workshops, and will take place in a purpose-built laboratory. In addition, Cisco engineers will be available to answer specific technical questions.

Sixth Edition of the Compendium Published

Today TERENA will begin the mailing of the first printed copies of the TERENA Compendium of National Research and Education Networks in Europe, 2006 Edition (ISSN 1569-447X). Begun in 2000, this is the second edition that is a part of the GN2 (GÉANT2) project.

The First SEEREN2 Summer School Praised by Students

The first SEEREN2 Summer School was highly appreciated by more than twenty students from a number of southeastern European and Black Sea region countries. The three-day training event was organised by TERENA as part of its work in the European Union SEEREN2 project. Invited participants in the event were Access Port Managers (APMs) and experts from the Network Operation Centres of national research and education networking organisations and universities in the region.

The TERENA Technical Committee Approves Four Task Forces

Today the TERENA Technical Committee approved the Terms of Reference of four task forces. TF-Mobility and TF-EMC2 (Task Force on European Middleware Coordination and Collaboration) will carry on with their work under a new two-year mandate. Two new task forces, TF-VSS (Task Force on Videoconference Service Studies) and TF-ECS (Task Force on Enhanced Communications Services) will continue the work begun in Task Force for Voice, Video and Collaboration, which recently completed its mandate.

The Programme Committee for the TERENA Networking Conference 2007 has issued a Call for Papers. The conference is organised by TERENA and hosted by UNI•C, the Danish IT centre for education and research.

6th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop Full of Eastern Promise

The 6th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop was held on the 11th and 12th of September 2006 in Tokyo, Japan. This was the latest annual workshop organised under the auspices of the Global Lambda Integrated Facility (GLIF), which provides the opportunity for managers, engineers, researchers and developers working on global optical internetworking to come together to discuss development and operational issues.

Apply Now for the Next TRANSITS Training Course

TERENA and FIRST will jointly organise a "TRANSITS" training course for CSIRTs on 30 November - 1 December 2006 in Morschach, Switzerland. eduroam® Gains Ground in Asia

Operators of the eduroam server of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in SiChuan, ChengDu, China have announced that they now have one eduroam site connected and more are on the way. This follows news earlier this month that Hong Kong has set up an eduroam top-level server.

Advanced EuroCAMP Registration Now Open

Registration for an Advanced EuroCAMP (European Campus Architectural Middleware Planning) is now open. The fourth EuroCAMP will be held in Malaga, Spain on the 18-19 October 2006 and is targeted at IT practitioners of academic and research institutions operating, deploying or developing federations. In contrast to the other EuroCAMP workshops that TERENA has previously organised, the advanced workshop is intended explicitly for people who already have good knowledge of, and some experience in, the field of federations and the technologies related to them. People without much experience in the field are advised not to attend this event, but one of the more basic EuroCAMPs that TERENA will organise in the near future.
