New Board elected to take GÉANT Association into the future
Pierre Bruyère (Belnet) is Chair of the new Board of GÉANT Association.

The General Assembly (GA) of the GÉANT Association elected a new Board during its meeting on 11 December 2014 in Zagreb. A majority of 1104 out of a possible 1155 votes were present or represented. The new Board will meet for the first time on 15 January 2015.

Representing NRENs (national research and education networking organisations), Pierre Bruyère (Belnet) was elected as Chair of the Board for a two-year term of office; also elected for two years were Sabine Jaume-Rajaonia (RENATER) and Ivan Marić (CARNet); while Erwin Bleumink (SURFnet), Marko Bonač (ARNES) and Alberto Pérez (RED.es/RedIRIS) were elected for one year and Christian Grimm (DFN) for a three-year term.

Two positions in the Board were created for persons representing organisations other than national members of the association. In these positions, Dorte Olesen (Technical University of Denmark) and David Foster (CERN) were elected. Both have a long track record with the association and with research and education networking generally.

In other business the GA also approved the Annual Operating Plan and Budget of the GÉANT Association's Cambridge office (GÉANT Ltd. - formerly DANTE).

The GA meeting was held back-to-back with meetings of the GN3plus Assembly and of the NREN PC, where some key decisions were made, such as agreeing on a new NREN cost-sharing model for 2015.

Following the formal meetings, an informal session on NREN strategies was led by Erik Huizer of SURFnet, attended by many NRENs. This led to a fruitful exchange of information and ideas for the future.
