Technical Requirements

You will need a laptop or notebook, with wired/wireless networking enabled. We will present installation, configuration and management of the cNIS using a dedicated environment. We have prepared a VMware image with Ubuntu OS and all the required software (application server, database server, etc), so each participant should have a VMware player installed and configured (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/).

Other hardware and software requirements

  • At least 1024 MB of RAM available
  • At least 1.8 GHz processor
  • At least 5GB HDD space available
  • VMware Player correctly installed (including the network settings - you should ensure you are able to connect to the Internet)

Skills required

  • Basic Linux knowledge (basic operations, running scripts, etc.)
  • Basic XML knowledge (most of the configuration is in XML files)
  • Basic SQL knowledge (logging into a database)

  • DVD with an image of the operating system with required software already installed and configured
  • Workbook (slides, notes, etc)
