The Next Generation Networks Task Force (TF-NGN) investigates the suitability of advanced networking technologies for future implementation in research and education networks in Europe. TF-NGN focuses on lower-layer technologies, such as optical networking, MPLS and IPv6.

The goals of the TF-NGN Task Force are:

  • to provide a forum for exchanging experience and knowledge
  • to promote development and testing of innovative networking technologies
  • to define, develop and test new networking services, which can subsequently be introduced by national research and education networks and/or in the European research networking backbone infrastructure
  • to provide a forum for wider discussion of the work of the GÉANT2 joint research activities and service activity on end-to-end Quality of Service.
