LCPM - Work Area: Exchange of ideas on delivering services

Coordinator: Magnus Strømdal (UNINETT)

This work area looks at new technology and customer requirements for new services, and how to deliver the new services to the customer.

Identify new service ideas

During the task force meetings, several ideas have been presented where collaboration could be possible.

  • Dashboard is an idea explored and developed at SURFnet. It conceives a service targeted at the technical managers from connected institutions, to have a dashboard showing information of all services provided by the NREN (SURFnet in this case). Presentations were made at a meeting in Utrecht, Dec 2006 (see below for more info). If you want to know how the interface would look like, click here. UNINETT and BELNET showed interest in further collaboration.
  • Mail filter services are another area where further cooperation is feasible. Existing examples of such a service are the SURFnet Mail Filter service and UNINETT's Maildike service. Such services are especially useful for smaller institutions where it is not feasible to run mail filters themselves.
  • Another service presented at the Utrecht meeting is SURFnet IDS. See below for the presentation of this already running service.

Exchange of ideas on new services and how to deliver the service

The TF-LCPM will hold a BoF on co-development of new services at the next TNC in Lyngby. The programme is here. Please register if you think of attending this BoF.

Identify examples on co-development and co-delivery

NRENs collaborate in the development and co-delivery of new services though their participation in some projects (in particular GN2), through TERENA Task Forces, or through TERENA projects. Examples include:

A document describing these and other examples will be published soon.
