Network Performing Arts Production Workshop 2011
The third European Network Performing Arts Production (NPAP) workshop was hosted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona with local technical support provided by RedIRIS, the Spanish National Research and Education Network (NREN), and CESCA, which manages the regional network in Catalonia (Anella Cientifica). As with the previous events, the workshop was coordinated by TERENA and Internet2, with additional technical expertise provided by GARR, the Italian NREN.
The event was held on 15-17 June 2011. Particular emphasis was placed on the equipment and staffing requirements for interactive performing arts education, multi-site performance events, and high quality netcasting over advanced networks. It was be a mix of hands-on audio/video production techniques and presentations of networking aspects of producing high quality transmissions of various Performing Arts.
The main target audience of the workshop are people from institutions which produce events in the performing arts area (music schools and academies, dance academies, arts academies etc) who want to explore the new possibilities and challenges that advanced education and research networks can offer them and their institutions. People involved in audio/video production in other areas can also greatly benefit from the presentations, and practical "hands on" sessions with cutting edge applications and services. The workshop will also be of interest to NRENs and other regional education networks whose constituents could have a need for high-end audio visual production and transmission over those networks. An equivalent event coordinated with Internet2 will be held bi-annually in the United States, alternating with the European event.
