GN3 SA3 T4 educonf Workshop

October 18-19, 2010
Lisbon, Portugal

The educonf Workshop was held on 18-19 October, 2010, in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by FCCN (Foundation for National Scientific Computing), the Portuguese NREN and organised by TERENA and GN3 SA3 Task4 participants.

About GN3 SA3-T4 educonf task
The GN3 Exec and GN3 NREN-PC have approved the creation of a new task (T4) in SA3 to perform a feasibility study on a potential video conferencing service in the GN3.
The overall vision is to provide a high quality collaboration environment that will be available and easily accessible to research and academic end-users. The first goal of SA3-T4 task is to study the potential of a future GEANT Videoconferencing service that will be part of this overall vision. Other services may also be considered for investigation at a later stage that work towards this overall vision and these will be brought forward as proposals for feasibility studies to be conducted.
The feasibility study will gather and process user and NRENs requirements input, develop a high level service architecture and define the business case for a GN3 service.

All NRENs have been invited to participate in the workshop in order to present the requirements of their national community. Participants included the NRENs' VC service product managers and representatives from other NRENs who do not yet have a VC conferencing service. GN3 project covered the travel cost of one representative per each NREN to the workshop.

Workshop agenda and presentations are available here.
