EU-Med Event 2 - e-Infrastructures in the Mediterranean
Aim of the event
In October 2007 the first EU-Med Event was held. It brought together VIP speakers and an invited audience from more than 15 countries around Europe and the Mediterranean region to discuss collaborations in e-infrastructures and networking for research and education. The second EU-Med Event was intended to progress collaboration between countries of the Mediterranean region and the European Union (EU) in this field.
The programme featured VIP speakers, who provided insights into the status and perspectives of e-infrastructures in the Mediterranean. It also included interactive sessions that give ample space to the voice and experience of members of the user community. Finally, it provided an opportunity to celebrate both the achievements of the regional research and education network EUMEDCONNECT and the launch of its successor EUMEDCONNECT2.
Following the success of the previous EU-Med Event, this conference brought together invited policy makers and civil servants from relevant ministries and institutions, executives and officials from international organisations such as the European Commission, the Arab League, UN agencies, private companies and foundations, as well as representatives from the user community.
The second EU-MED Event was hosted by three sponsoring projects that foster the creation of e-infrastructures in the Mediterranean region: EUMEDCONNECT2, LINKSCEEM, and the Development Support activity of GN2 (GÉANT2), thanks to the support of the European Commission. Active support was also provided by EUMEDCONNECT2, JUNet, the Jordanian Universities Network.
The second EU-Med Event took place at the InterContinental Jordan hotel in Amman, Jordan, where a number of rooms were available at a discounted rate for participants.
