Eastern Europe Partnership Event

The eInfrastructures in Eastern Partnership Countries Event is being organised by the GN3 Development Support Activity and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova under the auspices of the European Union's Eastern Partnership Platform 4. This aims to improve e-Infrastructures in the partner countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine by providing an opportunity for stakeholders to meet with policy makers in order to raise awareness of the importance of computer networks and services.

The main objectives of this event are:

  • to raise awareness of the importance of e-Infrastructures amongst politicians, civil servants and funding agencies in the Eastern Partnership countries;
  • to make the case for the development of research and education networks in the countries concerned and to encourage further integration of those networks with GÉANT;
  • to encourage the relevant stakeholders to support research and education networks and provide means for sustaining them in future.

Participation in this event is by invitation only.

The Eastern Europe Partnership Event will be held on 11-12 December 2012 at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in Chisinau, Moldova.

The European Union’s Eastern Partnership is a regional cooperation programme inaugurated in May 2009 to support political, social and economic development in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine with a view towards gradual integration into the EU economy. This provides support to initiatives contributing to the stability and security of partner countries, and that improve effective cooperation between those countries and the EU. Platform 4 'Contacts between People' is concerned with the development of e-infrastructures and supporting services that are key to implementing the overall goals of the Eastern Partnership, and the aim is to build on the progress already seen in the partner countries through other support actions.

The GN3 Development Support Activity (GN3-NA4/T5) assists research and education networking in countries that have recently become connected to the GÉANT network, or are likely to do so in future.
