Training and Workshops for advancing NRENs

As part of the GÉANT project, Digital Inclusion (Task NA4/T4), Campus Best Practices (Task NA3/T2) and TERENA Development Support in co-operation with CEENET and EaP countries are involved in organising a series of trainings and workshops aimed at raising staff competences at NRENs and their Members in Eastern Europe. The trainings and workshops are open to all GÉANT participants and specially targeted at Eastern European countries

E-infrastructure Autumn Workshops

Chisinau, Moldova

The E-Infrastructure Autumn workshops are the second in a series of three GÉANT workshops addressing Identity Provisioning issues at the NREN and Institutional level and support of pan-European and Global Identity e-Infrastructures and supporting underlying infrastructure. The objective of the workshops is to ensure uptake of major technologies required for the future of the Eastern Partnership regions.

Summary of the Programme

Day 1

The workshop will start on Monday, 8th September 2013 with working lunch/registration and immediately after lunch we will start with the session devoted to optical networking aspects important for future network developments in the area. Planned topics include: - dark fibre networks - lighting the fibre - (C/D) WDM systems - MPLS services - GEANT lightpaths services

Day 2

The Second day morning will focus on network routing, monitoring and analysis. NetFlow, NetIIS are in focus. The afternoon session will train on the deployment of network services, including basic communication services as VoIP and eduroam. The session will also highlight the opportunities provided by GEANT testbeds.

Day 3/4

Federated identity building training will be held from Wednesday to Thursday lunch. This technical hands-on training focuses on the tools and skills necessary to deploy identity infrastructure for the library, campus and country. Including:

  • How to safely and securely expose the identities of your user community within your organisation and beyond.
  • How to offer (as well as access) services and resources in a federated community.
  • How the development of hub & spoke federated identity infrastructure can scale from the campus to the country level.



The E-Infrastructure Autumn Workshops will held back to back with the 13th RoEduNet/ 8th RENAM Conference in Moldova (11-13 September) and will be hosted by RENAM.

The e-infrastructure Autumn workshops are financially supported for EAP countries by EC Platform 4.
