Hands-On Workshops

The Centre for Information Technology in edUcation (CITU), Lund University, gave two hands-on workshops during the TERENA-NORDUnet Networking Conference 1999 to demonstrate the interactive tools, LUVIT and EVA, developed to improve teaching and learning in virtual environments. The workshops were held in English and were both attended by about 20 participants. A brief description of the tools is provided below:

EVA - EVAluation Tool

EVA is a new evaluation tool which can, in principle, be used for any quality assurance task. It is a flexible tool which uses enquiries to investigate the outcome of processes, courses, educational programs etc. EVA can create enquiry forms for many purposes and will even compile the answers! Thus EVA can ensure educational quality by making the evaluation process quicker, easier and more cost effective.

LUVIT - Lund University Virtual Interactive Tool

The most common pedagogical approach to using the web is to rely on it for distribution. LUVIT provides simple tools to assist teachers to distribute course materials. It enables teachers to use familiar tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation programs to produce their course materials; no knowledge of HTML is required. It enhances individual learning by allowing teachers to provide a "smörgåsbord" of additional educational resources. LUVIT also increases interactivity by providing users with a rich collaborative environment. Students can communicate with each other and with the teacher by using tools such as chat, news, e-mail and videoconferencing.
