Conference VenueReputedly established in 990 by a Danish Viking king, Lund was formerly the religious, political, cultural and commercial centre for the whole of Scandinavia. The city of Lund is located a short distance from Malmö. It is conveniently located for both Malmö airport (Sturup) and Copenhagen airport (Kastrup) which has frequent onward connections to Malmö City Harbour by SAS hovercraft. Amidst the city's enhancing tapestry of cobbled streets and picturesque buildings are proud reminders of Lund's prominence, both past and present. The city is a centre for old architecture, folk culture and fine modern art, and is located close to Scania's many attractive beaches.Founded in 1666, Lund University, with its eight faculties and a number of research centres and specialist institutes, is one of the largest units for research and higher education in Scandinavia. The main part of the University is situated in Lund, but a number of research and education departments are located in Malmö and Helsingborg. At present, the University has almost 37,000 students and employs approximately 6,000 people.
