About TERENA
TERENA, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, is an association of research networking organizations in and around Europe. Currently TERENA has 37 national members, 2 international members and 8 associate members.
The mission of TERENA is the promotion and development of a high-quality international information and telecommunications infrastructure to support European research and education. TERENA's main activities are:
-
to represent the interests and the opinions of TERENA's members in contacts with governments, funding bodies, telecommunications operators, industries and the public at large - both at the European level and with similar organizations from other continents;
-
to carry out a Technical Programme where technical experts from TERENA members' countries work together in Task Forces and innovative projects, to further develop and promote networking technologies and services for the research and education community;
-
to organise conferences and workshops to exchange information between the TERENA members, to make them and others involved in the wider networking environment aware of relevant developments, and to transfer knowledge to less privileged regions;
-
to provide Europe-wide services on a neutral basis to the TERENA community and, if needed, to the networking community as a whole.
