The third European-level eduroam administrators ‘train the trainers’ workshop was held on 24–25 November 2009. Ten eduroam administrators from six European countries attended the two-part course at the training facility of the University Computing Centre (Srce) in Zagreb, Croatia. The event was organised by the TERENA Secretariat as part of the GÉANT (GN3) project and with local support from Srce.
The first part of the course was an overview and technical hands-on set of modules on how to set up an organisation as an eduroam Service Provider and included a step-by-step approach on how to set up as an Identity Provider. This included installation and configuration of all the software that is needed, and a chance to see what kind of hardware requirements there might be. This part of the course was taught by Stefan Winter (RESTENA) and Miroslav Milinović (Srce).
The second part of the course was designed to give the participants the necessary skills and knowledge to become professional trainers. Peter Webster (DANTE) led this part of the course, which looked at such areas as presentation skills and adult learning techniques, and was very well received by the trainees.
The course materials were developed in the predecessor project GN2, with a view to rolling out training to institutions that do not yet have an eduroam service on campus.
