Streaming server?

Hi All,


Recently, I've been involved in a university project where a grand 
lecture hall would be streaming enabled.

I wonder what streaming server is the most effective (performance, 
maintenance) to use in such a project. It is a requirement to broadcast 
in quality up to HD. Archive provisioning is also required.

The biggest question is whether to move towards flash or stick to some 
ordinaty solution.

I'd be very grateful if you could point me to some good streaming 
servers with some report on your usage experiences including the 
workflow of content production.
