Dear all, Please find attached two papers intended to stimulate and inform discussion on the 17 February at the Vienna meeting of TF-EMC2 and TF-Mobility: - "Project Moonshot - Vienna briefing paper": a paper describing Project Moonshot. - "Moonshoot Feasibility Analysis": an independent technical feasibility analysis of Moonshot undertaken by Sam Hartman of Painless Security LLC. I look forward to your comments! This is the abstract from the 'Briefing paper': "Project Moonshot is an effort to address a number of issues that have been observed with SAML-based federation. These include: the difficulty of using a federated identity with applications that are not HTTP user agents; the so called 'Identity Provider discovery' and 'Multiple Affiliation' problems; and inter-federation. Project Moonshot proposes an architecture for addressing these issues; in addition, it proposes a number of other novel benefits that may improve the ease of using and deploying SAML-based federation. This architecture is partially documented with specifications that are currently undergoing updates in response to an independent feasibility study that was commissioned by JANET(UK). This study found that the proposed architecture and a proof-of-concept implementation is technically feasible, but that non-trivial challenges face its wider implementation and adoption. The purpose of this paper is to brief the NREN community on Project Moonshot and to provide a technical overview, in the hope that a consensus may emerge within the community on whether and how to proceed with future developments, either based on Moonshot or related work." best regards, josh. JANET(UK) is a trading name of The JNT Association, a company limited by guarantee which is registered in England under No. 2881024 and whose Registered Office is at Lumen House, Library Avenue, Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, Didcot, Oxfordshire.
