Hi all,
as an update to the results I presented in Umea, I just wanted to add
that the test with the Trapeze Networks system proved the same thing as
others - fast roaming and WPA (not WPA2) does not work.
However I also did tests with WPA2, and this is also interesting. Under
Windows XP SP3 with additional registry settings for WPA2, roaming does
indeed work as it should - no authentications. However, under Vista fast
roaming does not work for me.
The registry trick is no longer available, but one can dump the profile
with
netsh wlan network profile
and there PMKCacheMode is set to enabled, so it should work.
By the way preAuthMode is set to disabled, still this should have
nothing to do with roaming when the client is moving back and forth
visiting the same AP several times.
All this adds to the general thesis that fast-roaming capability is very
client dependent and cannot be counted on in vastly heterogeneous
environments like the ones we see in eduroam.
Cheers
Tomasz
