Dear
All The eduroam project group participated in a QUESTNET conference
last week, where we provided eduroam wireless access and a helpdesk to promote
the service and to help end users. The result was that 1.
51 people used the service as opposed to the STD conference wireless
2.
74 devices connected successfully, including WinXP, Vista, MAC (up
to 10.5.4), Linux, the Asus EEE PC, and with our Linux guru Stephen Walsh we
even got the OLTP (one laptop per child) eduroam enabled!! 3.
We successfully added 5 institutions at the conference with many
more pledging to join and improve their authorized services offerings 4.
We backed up the profile with a give-away of wifi enabled t-shirts
to those who joined their institutions at the conference or were close to doing
so. The eduroam wiki has the latest details on eduroam, including a
new flyer, and some photos from the helpdesk! - https://wiki.aarnet.edu.au/display/eduroam/Home
We as a group are committed to supporting eduroam access at
eResearch Australasia in November, other events are being considered and
confirmed. We are also developing our support material for the different
OSes (again please see our wiki). I must acknowledge the support of the group to its success, especially
Lincoln Short, Stephen Walsh, Glen Turner, Brook Schofield and Mark Laffan, and
Mahmoud abo Elwafa for network support and Joan Hummer for getting our embroidered
t-shirts ready in time. Please let us know if you need more information, Best wishes James Sankar Director, Applications & Services street address: 20 Cardigan
