TRANSITS Courses
During the lifetime of the TRANSITS project (July 2002 - September 2005), seven training courses were organised at various locations in Europe.
Since then, TERENA has organised the training workshops mentioned below. The workshops in November 2005 and March 2006 were organised jointly with FIRST.
Rostoky U Prahy (Czech Republic), 23 - 24 October 2008

30 trainees from 14 different countries joined the TRANSITS CSIRT Training just outside Prague, in a small town called Rostoky U Prahy. The course was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency and CESNET CSIRT, the Czech National Research and Educational network providers. The course was particularly international this time, serving both commercial and non-commercial attendees alike from places including South Africa and Japan. The four trainers were: Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands), Lionel Ferette (Belnet CERT), Jaap van Ginkel (Univ. Amsterdam) and Andrew Cormack (JANET(UK)). Workshop logistics were handled by Jim Buddin from the TERENA Secretariat.
Egmond aan Zee (Netherlands), 24 - 25 April 2008

29 trainees from 13 different countries came to the seaside resort of Egmond aan Zee in the North of Holland. The course was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency and the GOVCERT, the Dutch National Government CERT. Based on some of the feedback received from recent TRANSITS courses, updates to the course materials were carried out with great success. The four trainers were: Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands), Serge Droz (SWITCH-CERT, Switzerland), Wim Biemolt (SURFnet, Netherlands) and Andrew Cormack (JANET(UK)). Canach (Luxembourg), 22 - 23 October 2007
30 trainees from 15 different countries came to Luxembourg to attend the course, which again was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency and the Luxembourgian Directorate for Electronic Trade and Information Security of the Luxembourgian Ministry of Economy and International Trade. Local assistance was provided by the CASES, the Luxembourgian Government project to raise local information security awareness. The course was presented using the most recent version of the TRANSITS materials. The four trainers were: Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands), Lionel Ferette (BELNET CERT, Belgium), Serge Droz (SWITCH-CERT, Switzerland) and Andrew Cormack (JANET(UK)). Workshop logistics were organised by Jim Buddin from the TERENA Secretariat.
Sofia (Bulgaria), 5 - 6 July 2007
21 trainees from 14 different countries attended the course, which again was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency. Local assistance was provided by the BG.ACAD|CERT, the Bulgarian Academic Computer Emergency Response Team. The course was presented using the most recent version of the TRANSITS materials. The four trainers were: Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands), Lionel Ferette (BELNET CERT, Belgium), Serge Droz (SWITCH-CERT, Switzerland) and Andrew Cormack (JANET(UK)). Morschach (Switzerland), 30 November - 1 December 2006
26 trainees from 14 different countries attended the course, which again was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency. Local assistance was provided by SWITCH, the Swiss National Research and Education Network (NREN). The course was presented using the most recent version of the TRANSITS materials, including a further revised edition of the technical module, prepared by Serge Droz and Renato Ettisberger from SWITCH, Switzerland, and an interesting new group exercise involving a specially devised incident response scenario led by Jacques Schuurman of SURFnet. The five trainers were: Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands), Jacques Schuurman (SURFnet CERT, Netherlands), Lionel Ferette (BELNET CERT, Belgium), Serge Droz (SWITCH-CERT, Switzerland) and Claudia Natanson (Diageo CSO). Workshop logistics were organised by Jim Buddin from the TERENA Secretariat.
Vilnius (Lithuania), 29-30 March 2006
The workshop was co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency. Local assistance was provided by the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithiania. CEENet, the Central and Eastern European networking Association, was able to support the participation by five trainees from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, thanks to grants provided by NATO. The workshop was attended by 25 trainees from 14 countries. The course was presented using the most recent version of the TRANSITS materials, including a completely revised edition of the technical module, prepared by Serge Droz and Renato Ettisberger from SWITCH, Switzerland. Tutors were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, United Kingdom), Ulrick Kiermayr (ACOnet CERT, Austria) and Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands). Workshop logistics was organised by Jim Buddin and Karel Vietsch from the TERENA Secretariat.
Vienna (Austria), 21-22 November 2005
The training course was attended by 28 trainees from 16 European countries. The event was sponsored by ISPA, the Austrian association of Internet Service Providers. Tutors were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, United Kingdom), Ulrick Kiermayr (ACOnet CERT, Austria), Jan Meijer (SURFnet-CERT, Netherlands), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany) and Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands). The workshop was organised by Don Stikvoort of the FIRST Secretariat and Aukje Bakker and Karel Vietsch from the TERENA Secretariat.
