  • Presentation on the US Magellan Project ( May 2011)
Magellan is a Test Bed to Explore Cloud Computing for Science undertaken by NERSC. More information on the project can be found on the Magellan Website
  • JISC Legal Cloud Computing and the Law Toolkit ( August 2011 )
This link points to a webpage on the JISC site that provides links to a number of documents related to the Legal Aspects of Cloud Computing. The range of documents includes a 17 page general overview: specific guides for users; senior managers/policy makers; IT departmnets and an introduction to contracts, SLAs, Terms and Conditions for Cloud Computing Services. Although these documents are explicitly written for a UK audience with UK law in mind, they contain plenty of general recommedations that are equally applicable outside of the UK.
  • The Cloud Legal Project being undertaken by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary College, University of London
This is the website of a three year project (started in October 2009) undertaking academic reserach into the legals aspects of Cloud Compting.
  • Review of the Environmental and Organisational Implications of Cloud Computing in Higher and Further Education
    ( May 2010 )
This 72 page document commissioned by the JISC from the University of Strathclyde explores the issues in the adoption of Cloud Computing services in the academic community. The activity (current in 2009/2010) was reviewed and a PESTLE and cost benefit analysis was undertaken and are reported in the document.
  • NRENs' Strategic Perspective on Storage and Cloud "Buy or Build" (April 2011)
This paper aims at providing an overview on the NREN's strategic perspective related to storage technologies and services (with special focus on cloud storage) as well as to cloud services and service outsourcing in general, as it has been initiated by the TERENA task force TF-Storage participants.
  • Cloud Computing Security Considerations (April 2011)
This document from the Australian Department of Defence provides some initial guidance on what questions potential cloud service users should be asking when trying to ascertain the balance between risk and benefits.
It includes checklists in several areas: Maintaining Availability of Business Functionality (13 points); Protecting Data from Unauthorised Access by Third Parties (19 points); Protecting Data from Unauthorised Access by Vendor's Customers (4 points); Protecting Data from Unauthorised Access by Rogue Vendor's Employees (6 points); Handling of Security Incidents (8 points).

  • Seize the Cloud (2011)
A Manager's Guide to Success with Cloud Computing by SOGETI & IBM.
This pubilication of more than 200 pages contains a number of case-studies. There is an extensive reference list atthe end of the document.
  • The Cloud: Understanding the Security, Privacy and Trust Challenges (November 2010)
A report produced for Unit F.5 of European Commission DG-INFSO. The material is intended to inform policy and other interventions which should be considered in order to ensure that European users of cloud environments are offered appropriate protections, and to underpin a world-leading European cloud ecosystem. The executive summary and synthesis (pages 1-26) is an interesting read.
