LCPM - Work Area: Service Portolios

In this work area service portfolios of participating NRENs are analysed and compared. NRENs can find missing options for their own portfolio or detect that they offer even more than they thought. Some services might be jointly procured or co-managed as a result. Synchronised service launch or shutdown could offer PR synergies.

  • The TERENA compendium provides a section on services. The compendium is a survey, conducted every year, amongst NRENs. You can see the 2006 results here (click on the NREN you would like to see, then on "services"). For 2007, the survey is still running at the time of writing this page.
  • The Service Description Template used at SURFnet since January 2006.
  • The Project Idea Template used at SWITCH. This document is used by the researchers/developers when a new project is presented to the management team.
  • A good example of a service portfolio is the "SURFnet menukaart", a menu used to explain all services to SURFnet customers. It is only in Dutch.
