From Airport by Taxi
Route - The only road that takes you from the Airport to Heraklion centre is 'Ikarou' street, you will follow this road all the way to the city centre. After approximately 4 km, you will be going uphill with the Venetian Wall and grassed areas to your right. When you reach the Archaeological Museum (at the top of the hill), you will be at a point where you can reach all the suggested hotels.
There are always taxis available at the Airport, the cost to the centre should not exceed €10 neither should the fare to the University from the Centre exceed €10.
Taxis in Town
There are various taxi stands scattered around Heraklion. Three useful ones are 'Eleftherias Square' opposite the outdoor cafes in front of Astoria Capsis Hotel, on '25th August' below and almost opposite 'Lion Square'.
There are two basic tariffs: Tariff 1 and Tariff 2. Depending on the time of day and the journey the driver must select the correct rate. Tariff 1 is the 'day rate' used from 5.00 am to 12.00 pm (midnight) and Tariff 2 is the 'night rate' valid from 12.00 pm (midnight) to 5.00 am. Also, tariff number 1 is used within the limits of the town or city where the taxi is registered and tariff number 2 is used outside that zone.
Tipping is optional but common.
If you get a taxi at the airport or the port and you intend to travel a long distance, then ask the driver how much he expects the fare to cost. By doing so you will avoid unpleasant surprises. Also, you will notice that in the arrival halls of the airports and at the taxi stands outside the airport there are boards with the taxi fares to the most popular destinations.

If you arrive in time for the bus, you can also catch the number 1 to 'Elefterias Square' from the airport.
To the University by bus
Bus No. 2: Direction Knossos, or
Bus No. 3: Direction Fortesa
The buses depart from the port (public bus station) and cross the town of Heraklion. You should ask the bus driver for the University Stop when you are on the bus. All buses stop at 'Eleftherias Square' in front of Astoria Capsis Hotel. Tickets are available at the major bus stops and in almost every kiosk in the city. The cost of a ticket from the centre to the University is €0.75, a ticket to Knossos antiquities is €1.10

For the Lato and Marin Hotels, turn right down 'Bofor' Street. After 150 meters, this road turns a bend and becomes 'Epimenidou' Street where you will see first Marin and then Lato Hotel approximately 150 meters in front of you.
The bus stop in the city center where you should get off is 'Eleftherias Square'. The bus stop is outside a cinema. To the right of the cinema, follow 'Idomeneos Street', until you meet 'Epimenidou Street'. Turn right and you will see the Lato hotel in front of you and a bit further down to the right is the Marin hotel.
