Under the auspices of TERENA, the team of the "Study of Environmental Impact" Task in the GN3 project is organising a workshop at the NORDUnet offices near Copenhagen Airport.
Purpose of the workshop
Within the Status and Trends activity of GN3, the task-5 team is studying the environmental impact of networks. The team is currently carrying out baseline audits of greenhouse gas emissions in the partner networks. It is also documenting cases of the positive effect networks can have on the environment.
The team would like to present some of its findings so far at a workshop in the NORDUnet offices in Copenhagen on 3-4 February 2010. It will also demonstrate, using real data from real networks, how to do real "climate accounting" and how to generate an ISO-standard green audit.
At the workshop, there will be reports from green projects in other networks, best practice in data centres, use of renewable energy in PoPs, and some prognoses for the future. Most of all, though, we hope to share input from a wide base of NRENs, and to show that networks can lead the way in a positive and sustainable carbon strategy.
Target Audience
The environment matters to all of us, at all levels. In the workshop, we plan to learn together how NRENs can develop a carbon strategy to reduce their carbon footprint and help other sectors to do likewise. We hope to see key technical and managerial staff from NRENs at the workshop.
