EuroCAMP Helsinki

Application integration with identity management

17 - 18 April 2007
Helsinki, Finland

Aim of the event

NRENs and campuses in Europe are facing right now the challenges related to the deployment of Identity management systems.

Even if the verification of individuals' identities within the campuses might appear as a relatively straightforward process, as in many cases people know each other, the implementation and the deployment of an proper Identity management System is not as easy as it can appear.

Some NRENs and campuses are quite ahead and have started deploying Federated Identity Systems or they are already part of real federations.

The fourth EuroCAMP provided some concrete examples of how Identity Management Systems are implemented at the campus level. The event also provided an update on the status of the various federations in Europe, highlighting both the technologies and the policies issues. The workshop also addressed topics such as:

  • What are the expected changes in SAML2.0 implementations?
  • What are the expected changes in Shibboleth 2.0 and how are different federation conceptual models going to be harmonised?
  • How are the federations progressing?
  • Can we use the current IdMs to grant access based on roles and privileges?
