By plane

You may, of course, find alternative flights to Ljubljana airport but as a starting point try Adria Airways, Lufthansa, or from the UK (London Stanstead) it is possible to fly via EasyJet direct to Ljubljana.

Getting from Ljubljana Airport to Ljubljana City

By Taxi:

The taxi rank is right in front of the terminal. Taxis are available according to the actual arrivals of flights. A fare from the Airport to Ljubljana City costs approximately 8.000 SIT (approx. 33,40 EUR) - some taxies may take Euros too. Telephone number: +386 4 20 61 678.

Private bus Markun

The journey time of the one-way trip is 30 minutes. An adult single fare costs approximately 1.000 SIT (approx. 4,20 EUR).You pay in Slovenian Tolars. By Public Bus

There are frequent bus connections between Ljubljana Airport and the Ljubljana Central Bus station. The journey time is approximately 45 minutes, because the bus stops at several places and doesen't take a direct route. Tickets are purchased on the bus. The price is approximately 890 SIT (approx. 3,80 EUR). You pay in Slovenian Tolars. For the location of the bus stop at the Airport you may ask at the info desk. By Train

By Car

Crossing the border

Slovenia is a EU member. A valid passport is sufficient for a visit to Slovenia on business or as a tourist, provided your stay does not exceed three months. Citizens of other EU countries have to carry a passport or national identity card. Anyone who is required to have a visa to enter Slovenia may obtain one at the Slovenian Embassy in their country or directly at the border crossing.

Local Transportation in Ljubljana

From the Central Bus station to the hotel Hotel Lev you can go by foot - approx. 10 minutes of walking (map) or by Taxi.

From Hotel Lev to Zavod sv. Stanislav you can go by Taxi or by Bus.

You pay the bus driver with tokens ("zheton") - one costs 190,00 SIT (approx. 0,80 EUR) which you can buy at almost every newspaper shop (in Slovenian see the sign "Trafika") - one is beside Hotel Lev (map) - you can ask hotel staff for help. You can also pay the driver, but you need to have an exact amount of money - 300,00 SIT (approx. 1,25 EUR) - the bus driver doesn't exchange or return any money. Always enter the bus at the front door and exit at any of the back doors.

The bus stop (named Hotel Lev) is located beside the hotel (on the same side of the road as the hotel - see the map). You have to take the bus 1, 8, 15 or 16, direction Sentvid. You have to get off the Bus at "Podgora" bus stop - 10th bus stop. Mind that the bus driver doesn't always stop at all bus stops. See the Ljubljana public buses map for details - Bus stop "Hotel Lev" is beside Bavarski dvor station, "Podgora" bus stop is in the top-left part of the map near Vizmarje bus station. Once at Podgora bus stop follow the directions on the map. See the pictures from the site 1, 2, 3. It will take you 20-30 minutes by bus and additional 10 minutes of walking.

Information about Ljubljana

Hotel Lev is located in the centre of the city. The best way to start exploring is to go down the Gosposvetska, Slovenska then Copova street. That will take you to the Prešeren square and the three bridges (Tromostovje) - see the map. If you cross the left-hand bridge, you will find yourself in front of the Tourist Information Center (Address: Adamic-Lundrovo nabrezje 2).

The interesting part of the old city is the area beneath the castle hill ranging from the three bridges to the Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) on the left and to the Zoissova street on the right. The roundtrip takes 2 hours at most. Don't forget to bring swimming trunks if you would like to visit Water City Atlantis. It's located in BTC and open from 9:00 to 23:00. Atlantis has 14 swimming baths, 12 saunas and a lot of restaurants.

Further into Slovenia

If you choose to spend another day or two in Slovenia, you might want to take a day trip to some interesting places. For instance, you can go see the lake Bled or Bohinj, explore the Soca river valley or visit famous Postojna and Škocjan caves (don't forget to bring some warm clothes or jacket, temperature in the caves are stable at around 10°C all year round). If you would like to see the blue sea of Adriatic, try Piran or Portoroz.
