Workshop on Structural Funds
TERENA meeting on the usage of structural funds for Education and Research networking
Brussels 8-9 December 2005.
The event, which was organised by Marko Bonac, member of the TERENA Executive Committee, attracted managers and directors of National Research and Education Network organisations, who learned about the availability and use of European Uunion Structural Funds to develop their network infrastructures.
On the first day, the participants had a closed meeting in the BELNET offices to exchange information and experiences. During this session, action plans were presented from countries that have already secured access to Structural Funds to develop research and education networking infrastructures and from countries that have plans ready to implement.
On the second day, delegates met with officials from the Directorate-General for Regional Policy and the Directorate-General for Information Society and Media of the European Commission. In this session, the opportunities, conditions and limitations of using Structural Funds for the development of IT infrastructures were presented and discussed.
