Jan Meijer is a Dutchman who moved to Norway in 2007 to start working with UNINETT, the Norwegian NREN. At UNINETT he manages the development and deployment of new services with a focus on storage and PKI.

In 1998 his professional career started when he received his bachelor in software engineering and joined SURFnet, the Dutch NREN, where he was a member of the SURFnet CERT and part of the Middleware Services group. He stayed with SURFnet until he bid the Netherlands good bye in 2007.

Jan has actively participated in a number of international fora such as the TF-CSIRT, the TF-EMC2, the IETF INCH working group and the FIRST community as well as a wide variety of projects. Jan was the driving force behind the project that lead to TERENA's SCS. He currently chairs the TF-Storage.

During his SURFnet time Jan had the opportunity to work with almost all available Internet technology, in both managerial and hands on roles, on both a national and an international level. The experiences he gained left him with a love for collaborative development projects that lead to deployed and used services.

Jan firmly believes improved human communication is key to improving our civilisation and sees Internet technology as a great way to establish this.
